Step 1:
Included in each folder of designs, you will find a PDF image to print. These PDF images are used for templates for cutting your fabric. You will need Acrobat Reader to view and print the template PDF. If you do not have Acrobat Reader, you can download it for free by visiting http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
Once you have printed your template, you can continue with the instructions.
Step 2:
You will need to trim your template around the lines. I prefer to trim before placing on my fabric simply to save on fabric and stabilizer. If you choose to trim only, don't cut too close the lines.
NOTE: When cutting your templates and fabric, always trim on the OUTSIDE of the lines or your fabric will not fit properly.
NOTE: In most of these designs, you will need to use the same color bobbin thread as much of the designs are seen.
Step 1 and 2 apply to all template files that you receive with our designs.
STOCKING and MITTEN
Step 1
Print your template and trim. The stocking and mitten both have two pieces to be cut, one for the front and one for the back. Remember to trim on the outside of your lines. Use spray adhesive to adhere your template to your fabric, but only for a temporary hold. Remove paper template after you've completed cutting.
Step 2
Hoop two layers of tear away stabilizer. Start step one in your machine. This will stitch an outline as a guide for you. Place the shorter front piece of fabric onto the outline. The next step tacks your fabric on.
Step 3
The next step(s) will stitch the design onto the front of your applique. If you're making the stocking, the next step will be the number. If you're making the mitten, the next step will be to finish the top satin of the pocket.
Step 4
After the front of your applique is completed with the finish top stitch on the pocket. Stop your machine, and remove your hoop. Do not unhoop your fabric. Turn your hoop over, and lay the second piece of fabric onto your outline using spray adhesive.
Replace hoop into your machine. The next step will tack down the fabric. Then, the finish satin stitch around the applique.
If you're working on the mitten, the number will be the last step.
After you've completed your applique, remove hoop and tear away all stabilizer.
Putting your Calendar together
You will need to cut a large piece of felt for your banner. For the mitten calendar, you need a piece approximately 20" x 30". For the stocking, you need a piece 22" x 32".
Now you will also cut a piece for the top of your calendar, if you choose. The approximate size is 17" x 4", but you can make this your desired size.
You can use pinking shears or decorative scissors to cut your felt edges, if you wish.
With the top smaller piece of felt, you can add the embroidery designs included or some of your own. After you've prepared the top, position it where you want on your calendar.
Once you have all applique pockets for your calendar done, I suggest placing them in their desired place. Once you have everything where you want it, use fabric glue to attach it.
You can also cut two strips of felt to use for hanging the calendar. Take your two strips and glue to the top of your banner, each strip being a loop. Now slide a dowel rod or decorative rod to hang your calendar.
